Our founders
A site of peers, just getting started. Been There Go There is new, and that’s the point. We didn’t fill it with paid reviewers, bots or made-up posts to look busy. Every trip here is real, and every note comes from a real person who went, ate, stayed or drove it themselves. Right now that’s mostly us, Nick and Carolyn. We do use AI to help us write up and organize our trips, but only with our explicit guidance and detail. The experiences are all ours, and nothing goes up without our personal review and approval. It gets better with every trip you add: more places, more honest takes, more accurate advice for the next traveler. If you’ve been around a few times, share what you know. That’s how this works.

Hi, we’re Nick and Carolyn. After more than three decades each of living, working, and exploring around the world, we realized something was missing. Most travel sites are geared toward first-timers or casual vacationers. We wanted a place that speaks to people who already know the basics — a resource that helps you go deeper, avoid the usual traps, and make the most of every trip.
Nick
Nick has spent 30+ years in roles that kept him on the road, mixed with plenty of personal travel along the way. He’s a 2-million-miler on air travel and has been a United 1K member for more than 15 years.
Carolyn
Carolyn has worked for a major domestic airline for over 30 years and has logged extensive miles exploring destinations across the country and beyond. She’s been a United 1K for the past five years.
Together we’ve also held top-tier status on multiple hotel frequent-stay programs for more than 30 years. Between us, we’ve stayed in countless hotels, eaten in everything from hidden local spots to memorable standouts, learned what to prioritize and what to skip, and developed a strong sense of what actually makes a trip worthwhile.
That’s why we created Beentheregothere. Here you’ll find practical, hard-earned insights on places to go, things to do, where to stay, where to eat, must-dos, and things to avoid. We focus on destinations and experiences that reward seasoned travelers — the ones that go beyond the obvious tourist path. We also built the site so we (and you) can log past travels and plan future ones in a way that actually reflects real experience rather than generic checklists.
Our goal is simple: document what we’ve learned and share it with a like-minded community of travelers who want more substance, better recommendations, and fewer regrets. Just as important, we want this to be a place where other experienced travelers can share their own insights, tips, and stories too. Whether you’re looking for reliable guidance on an upcoming trip, a place to track where you’ve been, or a community that gets it and contributes to it, this is the space we wished existed.
